Afer Theran and Bagdad, Kuwait City was the third place in the region to recieve Leyland Atlantean doubledeckers. After a pre-series vehicle, built in January 1979, 49 vehicles were delivered over the period 1980-1986. With the Mercedes-Benz O305 single-deckers these vehicles dominated urban routes during the mid-1980's. Though many were lost during the Iraqi occupation, several survived and could still be found in scrapyards or rebuilt into sheds the new millennium. Also, at least one was rebuilt to an opent top sightseeing bus (see the special vehicles section).
