MUD ISLAND MONORAIL
The Mud Island Monorail or Memphis Suspension Railway is a 518 meter long suspended cable car operation, opened in 1982. The structure hangs under a footbridge connecting the city with the Mud Island recreation area. Mud Island was created in 1960 in the Missisppi River after diversion of the Wolf River. A recreation area was created on the peninsula in 1981. The suspended monorail opened in July 1982. The two cars were built in Switzerland and are pulled by one 1067 m long cable. The speed is 11.3 km/h and each car can hold 180 passengers. (The pictures were taken on 27-09-2015).
