Nicaragua’s bus scene is dominated by secondhand US school buses. Added were various series of buses donated or procured during the Sandinista period from amongst others Spain, Japan, Mexico and Brasil. Most bus companies were transformed into cooperatives during the Sandinista regime and still form the backbone of public transport.
