Breng (Connexxion-NOVIO) Arnhem-Nijmegen (December 2009 to 9 December 2012)
Breng (Hermes) Arnhem-Nijmegen (10 December 2012 to 10 December  2022, extended to 30 June 2026)

The start of the new concession in December 2012 was a continuation of the existing concession, with Connexxion subsidiary Hermes as the operator, using the branding “Breng” without an operator name on the buses. Part of the existing fleet, mainly the newer buses, was retained. As the transfer was so gradual and older buses of most series remained for a while we will treat the fleet from the end of 2009 onwards when the Breng concept was introduced and the services of Connexxion in Arnhem and NOVIO/Hermes in Nijmegen were integrated. The short period December 2009 to December 2012 was seen as a transition period.

Arnhem is the only city in the Netherlands that still has a trolleybus fleet. Most of the other buses are CNG buses since the start of the second concession in December 2012. Biogas is used.

The buses in Arnhem are white with a blue roof (or blue-white for the trolleybuses), and the buses in Nijmegen are white with a pink roof (boys and girls….). While initially this was well adhered to, over time some shifts occurred because of differences in kilometres run in each city.

Part of the services are subcontracted. TCR runs services east of Arnhem, for which they received 20 of the new MAN buses (though one, 5379, later returned to Breng/Hermes). In addition to those TCR started to assign some of its own old buses to Arnhem. The 1000-series small buses are operated by Noot (until 2018-03), Rothoff and Linsen (each one bus) and TCR for the new Brengflex services wich started in December 2016. From December 2009 to December 2012 some services were subcontracted to Betuwe Express in the Arnhem Area and to OAD in the Nijmegen area.

Services with small buses numbered in the 1000-series were subcontracted to Noot of Ede,  Rothoff of Zetten en Linsen of Driel but were transferred to TCR by the end of 2016 when the Brengflex concept was also introduced.

Fleet news:
In July-August 2019, eleven MAN Lion’s City CNG buses became available because of the ending of the Haaglanden concession, and are transferred to Arnhem, allowing to retirement of the last diesel buses. Numbers are 6662, 6663, 6680, 6681, 6690, 6696, 6732, 6743, 6752 (the first one repainted end of July 2019), 6754 and 6758.

Due to work on the Waal Bridge, which will last one and a half year, four articulated Mercedes-Benz O530G Citaro G buses from 2007 were transferred from the Connexxion Amstelland-Meerlanden concession in March 2019 to Breng. The 9209 (BT-HF-54) and 9215 (BT-HF-39) went to Nijmegen and the 9222 (BT-HN-34) and 9225 (BT-HN-39) went to Armhem. These buses are in the Rnet version, so red-gray, except for the 9209 that TCR accidentally brought into the new white Connexxion version in December 2018.

In January 2019 a new series of neighbourhood buses came into service, the 7226-7240, Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 314CDI, modified by Tribus as Civitas Economy. They have eight seats as usual. The 7226-7230 are for the Nijmegen part of the concession, the 7231-7239 for Arnhem.

The series 7308-7319, FIAT Ducato – Tribus Civitas, 08 + 1 wheelchair, 2012, then went out of service for sale. In February 2019, the 7311 (39-ZDK-5), 7314 (33-ZHF-4) and 7316 (03-ZDK-5) went to a trader and were exported. The 7308 (41-ZHF-5), 7312 (81-ZDK-4) and 7319 (58-ZDK-5) went to RMC for services for the RET in May 2019 and became numbers 1623, 1622 and 1621.
