Egypt's main cities Cairo and Alexandria have major bus and rail operations. Other cities rely more on privately operated small buses. The Cairo operations have been divided into the two oeprating companies Cairo Transport Authority (since the 1950's), Greater Cairo Bus Company (1979-2009) and midibuses, which since 1985 were operated by El Rayan. Regional bus companies are the Upper Egypt, West Delta, Middle Delta and East Delta Bus or Travel Companies. West and Middle Delta have now merged into one company. Beginning of 2018 a new company started operating in Cairo: Mwasalat Misr, a joint venture of CTA and an investment company of the UAE. |
