| The Helwan system south of Cairo was opened in 1978 with 6000-series tramsets. Initially there were three-car sets, still seen in 1984, but later on only two-car sets were used. Series 6001-6140 motocars and 6501-6570 trailers were built by Kinki Sharyo, with 6111-6140 assembled in Egypt by SEMAF. The system is closed, reportedly after in 2012 part of the overhead wires were stolen. Although the number of trailers and motor cars adds up to 70 three-car sets it appears trailers were only used in Helwan and not on the Cairo city system. | |
