The Barbados Transport Board was established in 1955, taking over buses and services of seven private companies. The buses were of British origin: Bedford, Leyland, Albion, Seddon. Bodywork was imported or built by the local manufacturer ACME. Gradually the fleet was modernised and in 2008 consisted of locally bodies Hino buses and larger imported Brazilian buses.
