After the Gulf War the delivery of Ikarus 216 buses resumed. There were some marked differences however with the previous model 216.01. Most obvious is the lack of an air-conditioning and, as a consequence, opening windows, and the postion of the centre door, which was moved one window bay to the rear. Also new was the driveline with a DAF LT160 engine and Voith Diwa 853.58 gearbox. The buses were delivered with only small opening windows which proved inadequate in the hot climate without the airconditiong. Subsequently half of the windows were replaced with new ones with larger opening parts. Two buses were lost in a fire on board of the vessel during transport. In 2005 many buses remained stored out of service. They were white with blue skirts and stropes, though some (like 5587 on the picture below) were repainted light blue.
