In 1993 the first batch of a new Ikarus model, 253.50, of the so-called "Alfa" design was put into service. KPTC became the largest user of this design, with 70 vehicles over three years. The numbering started with the somewhat strange number 5656, probably continuing after the remaining Ikarus 256.70 of the series 5650-5679 that had been renumberd to fill gaps in the series. Several buses of this series had fallen victim to the Gulf War. The Ikarus 253 had a DAF LT210 engine and Voith Diwa 864 gearbox. In 2005 these buses were still in service and several had been repainted into the new white livery.
