The Utrecht region encompasses the city of Utrecht and adjacent municipalities. Public transport consists of bus and light rail services. Operator Qbuzz took over from Connexxion on December 13, 2013. The concession was for 10 years but was extended for two years until December 2025. Qbuzz lost the tender and Transdev will be the new operator.

The livery of buses and light rail vehicles is yellow with some orange and greyish-brown, with U-OV (Utrecht Public Transport) as the marketing name. This concept was already introduced with the previous concession. Express services carry a grey livery.

Initially, part of the fleet was taken over from Connexxion, including VDL Ambassador, Mercedes-Benz Citaro and Citaro G, and Van Hool AGG300 double-articulated buses. The latter were used on the very busy route 12, from the central railway station to the university at the Uithof. This was replaced by a light rail line.

The fleet was extended with new buses. Also, buses from the Groningen-Drenthe concession were re-assigned to Utrecht on a temporary of permanent basis. Some services are operated by contractor Pouw Vervoer.
