Little is known about the actual operations of the NYS/NBS business. Initially buses were stabled at the NYS premises in Nairobi, but the NBS had of course to have its own workshops and garage to house and maintain the 300+-buses fleet! The lack of maintenance and the ever larger number of buses out of service may indicate that the maintenance facilities were far from adequate and if they were, their management was not up to the required level. In the other cities where NBS operated the small number of buses may have been housed at the NYS premises.

Ticketing also remains unclear. A collected ticket was from a Setright machine as used by KBS but the text on it would suggest that is was from an airport serice bus.....



As NYS buses initially only operated the main routes also operated by KBS the system was largely overlapping with the KBS one. The main terminal in central Nairobi was initially at the bank of Kenya National Archives building, close to the Hilton and Ambassadeur Hotels. Later the NBS extended the services and routes were different from the KBS ones. As services became more sporadic more and more routes were not operated anymore. The impresson is that in the last year of operation the emphasis was on suburban routes to for example Ngong or Karen. These had either no route number or were numbered in the 100-series.
